Anton Ian Nielsen

Anton Ian Nielsen's practice works as glimpses into the subconscious. People, animals and simplified forms appear symbolically as carriers of mood, inner states and movement. He works across media in painting and drawing, using oil, oil stick, acrylic and spray on large formats. The paintings build fields of tension in which figures and forms respond to one another. Across media, his practice is united by an interest in how visual language can register inner movement — how symbol, colour and composition can give form to states of consciousness that exist prior to human language.
